9 food additives to Avoid !

Because we live in a world of microwave, fast and/or restaurant "foods", its not too often we consider the cost of what we are putting into our bodies. The following is a list of 9 food additives which we should be aware of that are commonly found in commercial foods. Most of these are cancer causing, linked to cancer or precursors to tumors.

Sodium Nitrate (or Nitrite)
A preservative, coloring and flavoring commonly added to bacon, ham, hotdogs, lunch meats, smoked fish and corn beef.

BHA and BHT
A preservative found in cereal, chewing gum, potato chips and vegetble oils.

Propyl Gallate
Often used with BHA, this is sometimes found in meat products, chicken soup and chewing gum.

MSG
A flavor enhancer found in salad dressings, chips and restaurant food. It can cause headaches and nausea. Fibromyalgia Studies have found that complete or near complete relief could be attained by removing all MSG and aspartame containing foods and drinks from suffers of fibromyalgia.

Aspartame
Also known by Nutrasweet and Equal is found in low-calorie desserts, gelatins, drink mixes and soda. This can also cause neurological problems such as dizziness or hallucinations.

Acesulfame-K
An artificial sweetener found in baked goods, chewing gum and gelatin desserts.

Food Colorings
Blue 1,2; Red 3; Green; Yellow 5,6. These are found in beverages, candy, baked goods, fruit cocktail and candy. These have been linked to asthma, thyroid tumors, adrenal and kidney issues.

High Fructose Corn Syrup
Linked to a number of health issues. Found in beverages, snack foods, etc.

Sodium Chloride
Also known as table salt. Found in many of your "low fat" foods. Linked to high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and kidney failure.

For one week, free yourself from anti-perspirant and replace it with baking soda.

No MSG for me, but I want you to see

Monosodium glutamate also known as MSG is the sodium salt of glutamic acid. Glutamic acid occurs naturally in many foods and is broken down slowly in the digestive process. MSG, which is produced by fermenting sugar beet molasses, is a additive which fools the brain into thinking something tastes better than it actually does.

In the 1960's a scientist, John Olney, discovered that MSG destroyed retinal cells in addition to killing vital neurons within the brain by exciting them to death. Our bodies can handle the glutamic acid found in many foods because of the blood-brain barrier. However, when high concentrations of glutamic acid (via msg) tip the balance of our blood, the blood brain barrier can be compromised.

One area of the brain that is susceptible to damage is the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus houses the control systems for the endocrine glands (Thyroid =metabolism, Pancreas=insulin regulation, Ovaries/Testes = reproduction, Adrenal glands = blood pressure/kidney function), sleep-wake cycles (i.e. insomnia) and the limbic system of emotional presentation (i.e. depression). You could say there are a few common health issues here that appear to be on the rise.

The following is a list of Hidden Names for MSG. This list is of factory created substances which contain at least 78% msg. Last time I checked 70% was a passing grade but the government only requires msg to be listed as msg if it is over 90% pure.

  • Monopotassium glutamate
  • Glutamate
  • Glutamic Acid
  • Vegetable Protein Extract
  • Gelatin
  • Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP)
  • Hydrolyzed Plant Protein (HPP)
  • Autolyzed Plant Protein
  • Sodium Caseinate
  • Senomyx (wheat extract labeled as artificial flavor)
  • Calcium Caseinate
  • Textured Protein
  • Yeast Extract
  • Yeast food or nutrient
  • Autolyzed Yeast

"Free the Mind, Heal the Body, I'm talking Evolution" part 1 - Jay Elect

Healing takes place from the inside out and our "belief" systems often keep us from reaching our potential. There are a number of books out today that discuss living to 100 years of age. This is a popular topic that applies old wisdom.

In the 1960 there was a book written by a "uneducated" man that contained a number of health tips that I am beginning to see again in various forms. I will elaborate on a few of them for part one of this blog, they are as follows:

Reframe from Eating Pork
Diabetics on insulin can use the insulin of pigs because of their genetic similarities. If our genes are that similar to those of a pig it's a stretch for me to believe the protein of a pig can be of benefit. We are seeing a lot of health issues from consuming pork and they far out weight any "benefits". We the genetic similarities (similar proteins, etc) are we setting ourselves up for diseases such as lupus?

Reframe from Eating Nuts (Peanuts)
In the book he states nuts because they are difficult to digest, however, peanuts have been known to contain a fungus called an aflatoxin. This fungus has been researched in relation to Reye's Syndrome in children and Parkinson's Disease in adults as a possible link.

Eat One Meal a Day
Who ever said three meals a day should be the standard? The "Mediterranean Diet" was based on the people of Crete during the 1950's. During this time frame, these people were very active, fasted on a regular basis and had a significantly lower caloric intake (they ate less) than our standard diet.

THE CHALLENGE
Anti-perspirant as been discussed in health circles for its aluminum content and the correlation to alzheimer's. Your challenge is to drop your anti-perpirant and replace it with baking soda. Dip two fingers in the baking soda and spread it under your arm, you don't need much. Try it for at least a week, if it all works out stick with it!

THE GIFT
Fruit Fresh Mix
Mix the following fruits together in a large bowl, cover and refrigerate.
Blueberries, Raspberries, sliced Strawberries, red & green Grapes and Watermelon.
